Education and Training - Pedorthists 

Paula Toye casting Canadian Certified Pedorthists are university educated and trained professionals. There are three major components to the education and training process.


I. Pre-requisite Undergraduate Education
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field is required, with prerequisite courses in :
* exercise physiology
* functional anatomy
* biomechanics
* athletic injuries
* physical growth and motor development
*motor control


II. Post- Graduate Diploma in Pedorthics through the University of Western Ontario www.uwo.ca/cstudies/framepostdegree.html
  • Courses (each 36 hours)
* Practical Foot Mechanics
* Pathomechanics and Pedorthic Care
* Assessment and Basics of Diagnostics for Pedorthic Care
* Introductory Orthotic Systems
* Advanced Orthotic Systems
* Pedorthic Approach to Footwear and Footwear Modifications
* Professional Practice for Pedorthics
  • Practicums:
* Clinical–380 hours
* Footwear and Orthoses–380 hours
* Laboratory (orthoses fabrication and footwear modification)–560 hours
