Indication for Orthotics
Major conditions for which orthotics should be considered as part of the treatment strategy are listed below.

Forefoot Pain 

  • Neuroma numbness or tingling in the toes
  • Sesamoiditis inflammation of the sesamoid bones and surrounding structures
  • hallux valgus angulation of the big toe toward other toes
  • bunion prominent bump on the first joint of the big toe
  • bunionette bunion on the little toe
  • metatarsalgia pain in the ball of the foot
  • metatarsal stress fracture hair-line fracture of the metatarsus

Heel Pain 

  • plantar fasciitis pain under the heel or in the arch of the foot
  • Severs disease inflammation of the calcaneus
  • Achilles tendonitis inflammation of the Achilles tendon
  • calcaneal stress fracture hair-line fracture of the calcaneus
  • retrocalcaneal bursitis inflammation of the bursa in front of the Achilles tendon
  • posterior tibial nerve compression pressure on the nerve behind the tibia

Knee Pain 

  • patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS)
  • iliotibial band friction syndrome (ITBFS)

Shin Pain 

  • Medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints)
  • tibialis posterior tendonitis inflammation of the tibialis posterior tendon
  • peroneal tendonitis inflammation surrounding the fibula

Other Conditions or Complications Due To: 

  • leg length discrepancy
  • osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • diabetes
  • neuropathy
  • peripheral vascular disease
  • chronic ankle sprains
